Sustainable practices from start to finish:

Leather is a sustainable product already from its origin, because it is a by-product of the meat industry. Leather or hide from animals (mainly cattle, sheep and goats) is a by-product of the food industry. The leather produced by the meat industry would mostly end up in landfills. In 2020, it is estimated that 8-10% of US leather would end up in landfills. Globally, about 40% of leather was destroyed in 2020.

The art of leather manufacturing dates back to 3000 to 5000 BC, when leather was used for sandals, clothing and more.  This makes the leather industry one of the oldest manufacturing sectors in the world.

Today, with the right chemicals and innovations, the leather industry can make huge strides towards a circular economy.

Our commitment to respecting the planet extends all the way from the sustainable leather we use to make our leather straps to the way we package and ship your purchase. When you order your bag from BARACOCOA, we will deliver it to your door carefully stored in a reusable 100% cotton storage bag and packaged in a recyclable paper box closed with paper tape.
